Winning at Recruitment – what does it take today?

Today more than ever there is significant competition to attract top talent. Economic factors – low unemployment, negative migration etc. mean talent scarcity is at unprecedented levels. Great candidates are hard to find and even harder to engage due to the multitude of offers they are considering alongside incentives to stay put.

Top candidates can (and should) be picky when it comes to making a career move. They are taking their time, assessing opportunities, asking more questions and are not afraid to say no when the opportunity doesn’t meet with expectations or career ambitions.

No longer are interviews a one-way street, with many applicants now preparing and asking their own questions. Interviewers must therefore be prepared to answer in-depth questions from candidates whilst also selling the opportunity. This can be done through highlighting the organisation’s employee value proposition and what makes it attractive to prospective employees. So…

  • Tell candidates why they should work for you!

  • Be clear about what your current employees love about working for your organisation!

  • Let them know what it is that makes your company a great place to work!

The events of the last 2-3 years have seen priorities shifting for many candidates meaning the most important factors they now look for may differ to pre-COVID times. The following are on the top of job seekers wish lists at present:

Flexibility and hybrid workingCOVID changed the way we work, and the change is here to stay. Employers (where possible) MUST embrace a hybrid working model if they are going to be competitive in the talent market today and going forward.

Employee Wellbeing – the stress of the last few years has taken a toll on many of us. Employers are required to play an increased role in supporting the physical and mental health of their employees.

Remuneration – salaries are on the rise…after a couple of years of stagnation candidates are asking for more – and will get it! - so make sure you are doing what you can to be competitive!

Candidates are becoming increasingly savvy; they are doing their homework and will be looking for organisations that can walk the talk when it comes to what they have to offer.
